			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Several million Americans will suffer from symptoms of panic anxiety or panic disorder and anxiety disorder during their lifetime. Symptoms start before the age of 25, with some patients experiencing symptoms during childhood, and continue well into old age without intervention.</p>
<p>Aside from panic or panic disorder, anxiety disorders still have other different types. Some of the major forms of anxiety disorders, including panic disorders, are obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic disorder, and separation anxiety.</p>
<p>All of these conditions have different sets of symptoms. But, all these disorders are characterized by extreme, irrational and often disabling fear, tension, worry and anxiety in relation to the object of fear or the cause of anxiety. In most cases, patients of any anxiety disorders recognize that their anxiety problems are irrational and blown out of proportion. Still, they can&#8217;t manage their symptoms, much less to eliminate them completely without intervention.</p>
<p>Causes</p>
<p>While the root causes of these disorders are yet to be identified, there are storing evidences, although not concrete, to suggest that these are inherited and tend to run in families. Previously, researchers suggested that these disorders are nothing more than severe psychological problems. With further research, though, it was confirmed that genes alongside disturbances in brain signals and body chemistry all contribute to the development of these conditions.</p>
<p>It is good to remember that anxiety is a natural body mechanism that is designed to alarm a person into action whenever he is exposed to a threatening condition. In general anxiety and panic are caused by irregularities in one of the body&#8217;s evolutionary fight-and-flight mechanism, anxiety that is. In people with any anxiety disorders, such mechanism go off even when there are no real threats. It is not always necessary that there should always be a physical cause to triggering this mechanism. What is important is what happens inside the head of the person suffering from any anxiety problems and the interpretations his brain creates.</p>
<p>Signs and Symptoms</p>
<p>Symptoms of anxiety disorders differ from one condition to another. Nevertheless there are a handful symptoms commonly reported by patients of anxiety disorders.</p>
<p>* Muscle tension * Fatigue * Intense wave of fear, apprehension, dread, anxiety or stress * Irrational and extreme fear and irritability and confusion * Inability to remain calm * Inability to stay focused</p>
<p>On top of what were already mentioned, people experiencing panic attacks and those diagnosed with panic disorders complain of the following symptoms:</p>
<p>* Faster heartbeat or racing heart * Increased sweating * Shaking or tremnling * Pain or discomfort in the chest * Shortness of breath * Lightheadedness, faint, or dizziness * Sensations of losing track of time * Feeling the need to escape or find escape * Derealization or sensation that everything is unreal * Depersonalization or detachment from oneself</p>

<p>Panic anxiety disorders are treated with a range of treatment methods. Medications are typically used for short-term treatment although there are medications that are made for long-term treatment. Psychological therapies, on the other hand, are designed to help patients identify the thinking patterns that lead to attacks of anxiety, cope with the symptoms as they try to eliminate them, and eventually recreate healthier and more appropriate thinking patterns.</p>

<p>A panic attack comes on abruptly, with a burst of fear and anxiety. Frequently, attacks occur without forewarning and lacking any clear reason. Frequent episodes usually happen after somebody is exposed to various events or conditions that may &#8220;trigger&#8221; panic. Although panic attacks are rarely linked to tangible damage, they might be emotionally and psychologically incapacitating. Panic attacks may also lead to panic disorder, a more painful and difficult condition.</p>
<p>Who Do Panic Attacks Effect?</p>
<p>The condition affects a lot of people. It is thought that 10% of the total population is suffering from panic attacks, yet many are still undiagnosed or under-diagnosed. Many sufferers of panic attacks are young adults. Women are at a disadvantage over men with more females than males being prone to panic attacks. <p>Just breathe in this manner until you become calm. If you are able to stand up, walk around slowly. It is also helpful to breathe into a plastic or a paper bag. With the paper bag, you are inhaling more carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide helps correct the blood acid level that had been disturbed by excessive breathing.</p>
<p>While you&#8217;re doing your breathing exercises, free your thoughts of stressful things. Turn anxiety in to calm and cheery thoughts. You can also try distracting yourself with other things such as puzzles and thinking games.</p>

<p>First and foremost you must realise that panic attacks are not dangerous. Nobody has ever died from a panic attack, although that&#8217;s exactly what you think is happening (44% of those who reported suffering attacks, reported &#8216;fear of dying&#8217; as a symptom).</p>
<p>You may suffer a panic attack in so many different situations but where it becomes really intrusive is when you begin having panic attacks while driving. Many depend on using their car to get to work, do the shopping, visiting friends and so on. So it can be incredibly frustrating if you fear getting behind the wheel just in case you have another panic attack.</p>
<p>Just because you had a panic attack in the car once, it does not mean you will have one every time you drive. You will be aware of the potential and perhaps feel the onslaught of the same bodily sensations but it does not necessarily mean it will turn into a full-blown panic attack.</p>
<p><strong>If you do happen to have a panic attack while you&#8217;re behind the steering wheel of a car, here are some things you can do to diffuse the situation:</strong></p>
<p>1) Pay attention to the radio, switch through the channels and see what else is on. Think about whether you like what you hear and what the disc jockey or presenters are wearing.</p>
<p>2) Begin to breathe slowly. The way you can do this is by breathing in slowly through your nose for a count of five, holding it for two counts, and breathing out through your nose for a count of five.</p>
<p>3) Feel the texture of the steering wheel and make a note of what it feels like and what it&#8217;s made from.</p>
<p>4) Be sure to use self talk that is positive and encouraging. Be aware of any negative thoughts and imagine the thoughts bouncing off a big stop sign. Then focus on the positive alternative example; &#8220;I am feeling calm and relaxed this will pass quickly&#8221;.</p>

<p>Symptoms of an anxiety attack include, but are not limited to, hot and cold flashes, sweating, stomach pain, nausea, dizziness, chest pain, and shortness of breath. Some people report the sensation that their mind has gone blank and they even report feeling paralyzed, or frozen in place during an attack.</p>
