The most common cause given for panic attacks is stress. This is not the only cause but it is the most widely accepted. If you are going through a major life event, such as marriage, new child or new home, you could be stressed and not even realize it. A happy event can easily be a stressful event. Many times once the major event is over, the panic attacks will subside. If you are having recurring panic attacks, you should go see a doctor. You may be suffering from a physical or mental condition that needs to be treated.
Panic attacks are very scary. An episode can last for minutes or even hours. Many first time sufferers mistake a panic attack for a heart attack because the symptoms can be similar. A trip to the emergency room will rule out any physical problems. Along with the physical symptoms of panic attacks come some mental ones. You know your body. If your body is dealing with stress by having panic attacks, you need to start working on how to reduce the stress. Look at your life and find ways to lower your stress levels. - Watch what you eat. Try to make more healthy choices. Don’t skip breakfast.
- Get enough sleep. Your body rejuvenates while it is at rest.

- Try to reduce the amount of alcohol you consume. Cut out cigarettes.
- Reduce or eliminate caffeine drinks like coffee, tea and soda. Caffeine is known to increase anxiety. It also can cause insomnia which does not allow the body to get its needed rest.
Using alcohol and drugs have been an accepted way for people to cope with stress for a long time. Using drugs, even prescribed drugs and alcohol can create other problems. To reduce the amount of internal stress you have, you should try to get your body as clean as you can. Get educated about panic attacks and help yourself get better.
